You Have a Right to Equal Housing Opportunities
It is against the law to discriminate against a renter or home buyer based on that person’s:
- Age (older than 40)
- Color
- Disability
- Familial status (having children)
- National origin
- Race
- Religion
- Sex
- Veteran’s status
A Landlord or Housing Provider May Not Do the Following
- Refuse to rent or sell you a home
- Charge more to rent or buy a home
- Falsely claim a home is unavailable
- Persuade you to move into or away from a certain neighborhood
- Refuse to accommodate a disability
- Deny any other housing transaction based on your membership in one of the protected classes
If you believe you’ve experienced housing discrimination, contact the Orange County Human Rights and Relations Department at 919-245-2487, Human_Relations@orangecountync.gov, or on our website at: orangecountync.gov/fairhousing
