El Centro Hispano NC and El Colectivo NC today expressed their profound gratitude to Governor Roy Cooper for vetoing HB10, a dangerous bill that poses significant legal and constitutional threats to immigrant communities and undermines the safety and rights of all North Carolina residents, and negatively impacts public schools funding.
“We thank Governor Cooper for being on the right side of history by vetoing HB10 and protecting justice and equality for all,” said Pilar Rocha-Goldberg, President and CEO of El Centro Hispano NC. “This bill was not only unnecessary but also harmful, targeting a community that plays an integral role in North Carolina’s economic growth.”
Rocha-Goldberg highlighted the absurdity of legislating against immigrants who contribute to the state’s economy, urging lawmakers to focus on policies that provide labor protections and access to work permits rather than passing restrictive laws that jeopardize the well-being of North Carolina’s diverse communities.
