Community Health Workers Complete Civics Training
Our Community Health Worker Academy, in partnership with UNIDOS US, proudly celebrated the successful completion of the “Civics for Community Health Workers” training, an important initiative designed to strengthen civic knowledge and leadership among trusted community advocates.
Seventeen community health workers completed the training, deepening their understanding of the fundamental principles of civic engagement. As trusted voices within their communities, community health workers play a unique role in connecting families with resources while also encouraging participation in the civic processes that shape healthier, stronger communities.
Throughout the training, participants engaged in interactive activities, collaborative learning, and meaningful discussions that encouraged them to reflect on their own experiences and the impact of their work. These conversations created opportunities to exchange ideas, build new connections, and explore practical ways to empower the communities they serve.
Community health workers are often the first point of contact for families seeking support, making their leadership essential beyond health education alone. By expanding their understanding of civic participation, they are better equipped to help individuals navigate systems, advocate for community needs, and inspire greater engagement in local decision-making.
This training reinforces the idea that civic participation and community health go hand in hand. When residents understand their rights, know how to make their voices heard, and actively participate in their communities, everyone benefits. Investing in the leadership of community health workers strengthens not only individual families but also the broader social fabric of our neighborhoods.
