Our Wake County Youth Summer Program concluded today!
For two weeks, we were at the Fiesta Cristiana Church in Apex, working with 17 youth. We used the
UnidosUS CASA Program curriculum, giving youth a unique opportunity to participate in a service learning program. Our main objective was to connect the youth with the genuine needs of their community.
A special thanks to our special guests who inspired our participants. Officer Stone, from the Apex Police Department, joined us and shared valuable insights with the youth. We also had the presence of Dr. María Rosa Rangel, who offered motivating and informative talks. It was wonderful to see how the youth got involved and learned so much from these outstanding professionals.
Today was a very exciting day, as we participated in the radio program “Sintonízate con El Centro” in La Ke Buena. There, our young people had the opportunity to show and explain the projects they carried out. It was amazing to see how they presented their ideas and how proud they were of their work.
Later, we visited Jacques Gilbert, Mayor of Apex, NC, who received us in his office. The mayor spoke to the youth about the importance of meeting decision makers and gave them a unique insight into their role in the community. In addition, it gave one of the young women the opportunity to be “Mayor for a Day” and five other young people the opportunity to become members of the City Council. It was an incredibly enriching experience for everyone!
Congratulations to all the youth who participated in the Summer Program. They have shown incredible commitment, leadership skills, and a true passion for serving their community! We are proud of each one of you and excited about the positive impact you will continue to make in Wake County and beyond.
