Durham Fiesta Latina Returns to Bring the Community Together Through Culture and Back-to-School Support

Music, food, dance, and Latin American traditions will once again take center stage as Durham Fiesta Latina 2026 returns to Durham Central Park. Hosted by the City of Durham Parks and Recreation Department in partnership with El Centro Hispano, the free, family-friendly festival will take place from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., welcoming residents of all backgrounds to celebrate the rich diversity of Durham’s Latino community.

More than a cultural festival, Durham Fiesta Latina has become an annual gathering where families connect with one another, enjoy live entertainment, and learn about valuable community resources. This year’s celebration will continue that tradition by bringing together local organizations, performers, small businesses, and families for an afternoon that celebrates culture while supporting students as they prepare for a new school year.

As part of the event, El Centro Hispano and Univision 40, will once again host its annual Back-to-School initiative, providing free school supply kits for children while supplies last. No registration is required; however, children must be present to receive a backpack and school supplies.

Festival attendees can enjoy:

  • Live performances featuring Latin musicians and cultural dance groups.
  • A variety of food trucks serving authentic Latin American cuisine, desserts, and beverages.
  • Local artisans and small businesses offering handmade crafts and cultural products.
  • Interactive activities and games for children and families.
  • El Centro Hispano’s Mobile Health Unit, providing free preventive health services and wellness information.
  • Community organizations sharing resources on education, health, family services, and other programs available throughout the region.

“Durham Fiesta Latina creates opportunities for families to come together while connecting with essential resources that help them thrive,” said Pilar Rocha-Goldberg, President and CEO of El Centro Hispano. “We are especially proud to continue our Back-to-School initiative, ensuring students begin the school year with the tools they need to succeed.”

“Fiesta Latina is a bridge connecting Durham Parks and Recreation with our Latino community.” said Rosalie Bocelli-Hernandez, Community Programs Analyst working in Latino Outreach for DPR. “What began as a celebration of culture, has grown into a vibrant tradition, bringing hundreds of families together each year to enjoy music, food, art, and cultural experiences. It is truly inspiring to see how this event has flourished, strengthening relationships and creating a welcoming space where our diverse community comes together to celebrate, learn, and connect.”

Whether enjoying live performances, exploring Latin American cuisine, supporting local vendors, or accessing valuable community resources, Durham Fiesta Latina offers something for everyone. Community members are invited to join this annual celebration of culture, connection, and opportunity.
